Farther than the lights on the
edge of the world
Farther than the milky way
Farther than the place night breaks into day
Farther still – still farther away –
…..
That is how far my memory goes –
It goes where remembrance fades
And where time loses itself in space –
It bends beyond that lost speck where
The horizon chips away…
…..
And on days when my mind is
Held captive by the city cage
When hissing streets and
Flying bridges ensnare my feet
I yearn to fly away to a place
I know but have not lately seen –
…..

Thanks for this. Five words speak the mind of every poet–those who write and those who just read–“I yearn to fly away”.

Oh this is perfection Meenakshi. Spare, crisp verse evoking a yearning that is palpable! If you have read my ‘Memories‘ post you will know why this touched me so deeply..
