Failure must have a better name

or just a straighter frame.

It must look brighter and happier

with eyes that quietly glow

rather than silently simmer.

Failure must beget more smiles

and pats and claps, a small fortune even!

It must excite, a little, social climbers

it must have its exclusive club

of autograph seekers.

Failure is soul soup (if success be soul food);

it clears weeds of unschooled ideas and

unlearnt axioms. It rewards patience,

and counts on optimism, obstinacy

to live through its thorny ambiance!

And when Failure decides to desert me

for greener grass on its hunting spree

I would be relieved, no doubt, even free.

But I would look over my shoulder

to make sure it isn’t again gaining on me!
